Next Halloween, we're running something a little different. A brand new, one-off adventure written just for this weekend, set in the aftermath of Twrch Trwyth's rampage across Llinffern. Those who went missing are starting to come home, but not all of them have come back quite the same.
Join us at the beautiful Norton House estate, nestled in the heart of the Wye Valley just outside Symonds Yat. Centred around a stunning 16th-century country house, with the charming Cider Loft and Apple Store cottages just moments away, the estate blends historic character with modern comfort.
Exposed oak beams and original stonework make it the perfect setting for a spooky weekend of D&D, with comfortable accommodation, thematic shared spaces and an incredible dedicated gaming hall.

A spooky, cinematic one-off adventure rooted in Welsh myth, inspired by the Mabinogion.

Nestled in the heart of the Wye Valley, Norton House is a beautiful 16th-century country house surrounded by peaceful countryside. Alongside the charming Cider Loft and Apple Store cottages, the estate offers a private setting where the outside world slips away.
At the heart of the weekend is Norton House itself, where everyone gathers to enjoy incredible meals prepared by your private chef. The beautifully converted Cider Loft becomes your dedicated games hall. With exposed stone walls and centuries-old oak beams, it's a space that feels made for immersive storytelling.
When it's time to rest, the estate's comfortable bedrooms are spread across Norton House and the adjoining cottages, giving everyone their own space to unwind before the next day's adventure.
Surrounded by the breath-taking scenery of the Wye Valley, with the River Wye, Symonds Yat, the Forest of Dean and the historic town of Monmouth all close by, there's plenty to explore if you fancy stretching your legs.

Drow Mushroom Steaks
Deep in the dark places, where the boundaries between realms grow thin, the most magical mushrooms take root. A rare Dark Elf delicacy.

Slabs of candied bacon. A favourite of the marauders who roam the mountains near Caes Einion.

Game system - D&D 5th Edition 2014
The OG 5th edition is the version our DMs are most comfortable with. This means less time figuring out the rules and more time slaying Goblins. If 5e 2024 is more your jam, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Max players - Eight
Once we hit 8 seats we’ll close bookings. We want each player to get plenty of game time and loads of rolls, anything more than 8 can get a little unmanageable. There’s no minimum number, we’ll play on regardless!

Game style
A big focus on fun, laughter and cinematic moments. We’ll aim to get a nice mix of combat, exploration and some role play into the weekend. We use battle maps projected onto a screen, with lighting, music and badly painted minis!

This is an all inclusive weekend. This means all of your accommodation, food & drink, activities (D&D) and items you’ll need to play included. You’ll get a total of 5 meals over the weekend, we’ll also keep the crisps, snacks and soft drinks coming during the games. We’ll give everyone who comes their own dice, notebooks and stationery that are yours to keep. We’ll also give you character sheets and printed game guides to help you play. D&D wise, we’ve planned for around 12 hours of professionally run D&D in a bespoke setting. So lots is included!

No. Due to licencing we will not provide alcohol. You can bring your own, but please drink responsibly and not to excess. This is not designed to be a boozy weekend, but we are mindful that sometime a yard of ale can help with creativity!

We’re really sorry, but not this time. Our early retreats are in really old country houses, this means lots of steps and narrow doors. We are planning more retreats for the year in much more inclusive and modern venues.

We will be playing in a homebrew setting loosely inspired by the Forgotten Realms and Arthurian legends. It is steeped in Celtic legend and lore, with many stories and characters directly influenced by the land we are staying in.

Support for new players – if you are new to D&D, we can arrange an additional introductory online session to guide you through the basics before the retreat.
All game materials provided – dice, character sheets, props and surprises throughout the weekend.
Exclusive countryside venue hire – the entire retreat space is reserved for guests of D&D Retreats.

Room allocation and configuration will be confirmed closer to the date of the retreat.
Deposit and payment terms
The full balance minus deposit must be paid at least 60 days before the retreat start date. Deposit £540 + Balancing payment £1800 = £2700
